The Conservation Easement Group would like to thank all who visit our website. This website was created to help secure, preserve and protect the Crowe Bridge Conservation Area for future generations.
ABOUT US
The Conservation Easement Group consists of dedicated citizens who are passionate about saving the Crowe Bridge from development and severance. We are committed to upholding the conservation wishes of the original owners - Ernest, Annie and Thomas Petherick who sold the land for conservation purposes. We are conservation minded individuals working together to ensure conservation easements are registered onto the CBCA to help preserve and protect the land for the benefit of present and future generations.
MISSION STATEMENT
WHAT ARE CONSERVATION EASEMENTS?
A conservation easement is a restriction registered on the title to a property. It can limit certain activities on the land in perpetuity such as severing the land, building houses, logging trees and excavating rock. It may also allow certain reserved rights or activities and land uses that the landowner retains the right to continue to engage in on the land. These rights include allowing public access to the property for swimming, camping, hiking and kayaking etc. Conservation easements are an important tool used to support the long-term stewardship and protection of natural heritage features on private property.
WHAT IS OUR MAIN OBJECTIVE?
Our main objective is to educate the public and the politicians about what a conservation easement is and how this type of legal protection will benefit the Crowe Bridge Conservation Area and preserve it for future generations. We would like to get 10,000 signatures on our petition to have conservation easements registered onto the title of the CBCA.
WHAT HAPPENS THEN?
After our widespread public awareness campaign, the Minister of Natural Resources, the Crowe Valley Conservation Authority - Board of Directors and the Municipality of Trent Hills will receive the petition with the 10,000 signatures. We will include the many emotional comments written by the general public and the reports on the scientific and natural wonders of the Park. Our hope is that the politicians will do the right thing and agree to register conservation easements on title to the Crowe Valley Conservation Area.
WHO MAKES SURE A CONSERVATION EASEMENT AGREEMENT IS BINDING ?
Conservation easement agreements run with the property title and are binding to all present and future owners. The easement is held by a conservation body such as a government agency or land trust. It enables the agency or land trust to monitor and enforce the restrictions attached to the property. The conditions set out in the easement remain in place if the property is sold or passed to the owner’s heirs.
HOW DOES THE PUBLIC BENEFIT WITH A CONSERVATION EASEMENT ON THE CROWE BRIDGE?
Conservation easements are legally binding agreements between the landowners and the easement holders.
However, there is a public interest in maintaining these easements, because they help secure lands that have public significance. With conservation easements on the title to the CBCA the public can be sure that the CBCA is safe from development and severance in perpetuity.
FACT
